  7. AYANNA WITTER JOHNSON

Supa Fine Uk has always encouraged artists to use our events to test out their new music before taking it onto the larger stage and Ayanna Witter-Johnson never failed to disappoint when performaning her new material back in the day.

When we first met Ayanna it was a Sunday afternoon at the Jazz Cafe, which was the place to be, for a couple of hours to get your Sunday jazz jam session.  At only £2 to get in,  the hugely popular laid back atmosphere had people sitting on the floor! Those heavenly days were what I called my "Sunday Jazz Service" were at least 15 plus years  ago now. Ayanna started performing for Supa Fine Uk a few years later.

On numerous occations Supa Fine Uk audiences had the privillage to hear exclusive new songs that Ayanna hadn't previously performed live  On one outstanding night Ayannas showed her ability to create powerful and meaningful music. So much so that, post-gig chit-chat we encoraged Ayanna to somehow arrange to sing one of her songs to an American audience during an up and coming music sclolaship at the Manhattan School of Music, as we had faith the black community would embrace her creative vision. During this two year stint Ayanna did indeed perform this song in America, at the famous Apollo Theatre Harlem and won its lengendary Amateur night becoming the first British Artist to do so. To this day we  hope our advice helped in her decision making. See link below

Ayannas graduation performance at Trinity College also brought out a new found appreciation of classical music

Despite being really nervous and concerned prior to her set Ayannas performance was one of those rare musical moments that we would always remember and be proud of.

We still get the shivers when looking back at her career. From the Apollo Theatre (see youtube) to performing for Supa Fine Uk it is  a wonder to see how she has continually musically grown.

Check out the new music video of Ayanna Witter Johnson performing "Black Panther".

  8. MADAME PEPPER

Madame Pepper has been a regular performer at Supa Fine Uk events over the years, bringing her touch of mellow soul/folk onto our stages.  We have had the pleasure of noting her progression through her musical journey.  Years ago, when we first came across Madame, Supa Fine Uk likened her to a young Uk version of Tracy Chapman.

Some of our blog readers may remember them days when we held our Soul Baby event, and that was when we was introduced to the lovely vocals of Madame Pepper.

All them years ago when Madame was still a student and performing her 1st gig for us it was only her 2nd or 3rd time on stage as a solo artist.   After her performance Madame Pepper rush off without receiving payment, so then the following week  I had to meet her job at the time in Camden supermarket to give her payment.

After introducing Madame with one of our resident DJ's for our events  at the time DJ Beatnik.  Beatnik moved on his own and created a music collective which included Madame Pepper.

As the years have moved on we continue to appreciate her music at Supa Fine Uk and we invite to our regular blog readers check out the latest video 'Gilded Age' filmed and directed by Zayna Daze and track is from Madame Pepper's debut album 'DRUMMOND'  produced by Radimo.

On Thursday 19t December Madame Pepper will be performing tracks from her latest album at our monthly night Supa Fine based at The Hideaway (Archway) 114 Junction Rd, London N19.

Reserve a £5 ticket by sending message to our (email) with your full name if you wish to come and see Madame Pepper LIVE. supafineuk@hotmail.co.uk
